“You sunk my Battleship!”
I am looking forward to seeing how director Peter Berg (The Rundown, Hancock, The Kingdom, and Friday Night Lights) takes a simple board game about Naval battles, and turns it into a movie about the Navy taking on a group of aliens. Looking at Peter Berg’s previous films I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and I hope that he will provide audiences with a fun summer popcorn flick.

While I am definitely looking forward to The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers, Ridley Scott’s new sci-film Prometheus is quickly becoming my most anticipated movie of this summer.
21 Jump Street Review
21 Jump Street Review
Well here is a first for Bleed Geek: Movies, a review for a movie that is up on the site before the movie officially hits theaters. Last week I attended an advance screening of the new comedy 21 Jump Street.
When the FOX television network launched back in 1987, one of the networks debut shows was 21 Jump Street, a show about a group young police officers who would go undercover in high schools and colleges to solve drug related crimes. Now over 20 years later 21 Jump Street is back as a movie, this time using the same basic premise, but rather than going the dramatic or action route the filmmakers have decided to turn it into a comedy. John Carter Review
A quick science fiction film checklist
1. A lone human hero with the fate of a world in his hands – check
2. A beautiful princess in need of help – check
3. Strange alien creatures – check
4. A villain out to control the world – check
5. A whole lot of fun at the movie theater – check
John Carter features many of the traditional plot points and the typical scenarios that we have come to expect in a sci-fi adventure film that we have come to expect. Some may feel that John Carter is a rip-off of a variety of other science fiction films; however those people are probably unaware that it is based on a novel that was first published nearly 100 years ago. In fact A Princess of Mars, the book that this movie is based on has helped to inspire many of our favorite science fiction books and movies. Personally I found John Carter to be a very entertaining movie that featured good directing, acting, and believable special effects. Continue reading

Hugo Review
Hugo Review
Since I was a little boy I have loved movies, it did not matter if I was watching them at the movie theater or at home on TV it was just something that connected with me. There are a few movies that I can look back on and remember how I felt while watching them, I can still remember the being awe struck while watching Jurassic Park, or Tim Burton’s Batman. Martin Scorsese’s new film Hugo was a movie that reminded me of those feelings as it displayed a love for cinemas ability to provide its audience with these experiences and feelings.
