New This Week – March 4th – 10th

For a new weekly feature here at Bleed Geek: Movies we will be highlighting each weeks big releases on home video and for the theater, while also providing some brief info on these releases and our thoughts and opinions on them.
Home Video Releases
–    Game of Thrones: The Complete 1st Season – DVD, and Blu-Ray
o   HBO’s adaptation of the George R.R. Martin fantasy novel comes to home video this week.  Having recently finished the excellent book that this series is based on I am very much looking forward to checking this show out.
–     Immortals – DVD, Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray 3D combo pack
o   Immortals looked to be a combination of Clash of the Titans and 300.  This was one of those movies that I was kind of interested in seeing when it hit theaters but ultimately I never got around to it.  That being said I will be renting this movie from a Red Box kiosk once it is available.
–     Monty Python and the Holy Grail – Blu-ray
o   One of the greatest comedies of all time makes its Blu-Ray debut this week.  The special features on this set look similar to the ones on the previously released special edition DVD, so unless they have given this film an amazing transfer it probably is not worth upgrading your DVD copy.  However if you do not already own this classic movie it is certainly worth adding to your collection.
–     Jack and Jill – DVD, Blu-Ray
o   Adam Sandler and Adam Sandler star as twins Jack and Jill in this terrible looking comedy.  Normally I am an Adam Sandler supporter (Billy Madison is one of my go to comedies to watch at the end of a crappy day to help me feel better), however I have feeling this may be one of those movies that I will feel bad even spending a dollar to rent it from a Red Box.

Theatrical Releases
–    John Carter
o   This week’s biggest movie release is the Disney adaptation of the classic science fiction novels by Edgar Rice Burrows.  John Carter is directed by Andrew Stanton, who is making his live action film debut after writing and directing Wall-E and Finding Nemo for Pixar.  The title character will be played by Taylor Kitsch (Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Tim Riggins in the fantastic TV series Friday Night Lights) this looks to be a good year for Taylor as he is also playing the lead in Peter Berg’s Battleship this summer.  The early reviews I have seen online have been pretty good so I am excited to check it out this week.  I will probably go see it in 3D on the IMAX screen, and hopefully I will have a review for this up on the site early next week.
–    A Thousand Words
o   Eddie Murphy reunites with director Brian Robbins, who has previously directed Murphy in Norbit and Meet Dave, two movies that I never bothered to see and chances are I won’t be seeing this one either.  As I was looking at all of this week’s theatrical releases I was quite surprised by this one as I have seen little to no advertising for this movie, which is usually not a good sign for a movie.  It will be interesting to see if they screen this for critics before its release date.
–    The Silent House
o   As I am not typically a horror movie fan, chances are I won’t be seeing this movie in the theater.  However the trailer looks interesting and as a fan of the TV show 24 I am intrigued by the films real time story telling gimmick.  If it gets good reviews or word of mouth from friends who do see it I may give it a try at a cheap theater or on home video in a few months.
That’s it for this week’s update.  Head over to the comment section to let us know what you are excited about this week.
