Battleship Review

“You Sunk My Battleship!”

As a movie fan I look forward to the summer movie season.  Many of my favorite movies are big summer blockbusters.  I love the spectacle of these movies, the larger than life stories, the special effects, the humorous dialogue, and most importantly the fun.  While Battleship is nowhere near this summer’s best movie (that award is currently held firmly by The Avengers with plenty more on the way that look pretty good), it is a fun film that I think audiences will really enjoy if they give it a chance.

Yes this is a movie based on the classic board game where you guess locations on your opponent’s board attempting to locate their ships and sink them before they sink yours.  Yes the film makers decided to have the Navy facing off against alien vessels rather than against another nation.  And while this movie has many reasons why it should not work, and why it should suck, it somehow managed to keep me entertained throughout its entire two hour run time.  Continue reading

Argo: Trailer

Argo looks to be another strong directorial effort from Ben Affleck, and I hope it is as good as his two previous films Gone Baby Gone, and The Town.

The Avengers: Review

The Avengers is a near perfect big summer blockbuster.  This movie featured everything that I hoped it would include, epic action sequences, entertaining dialogue, humor, and most importantly lots of fun.  Honestly I am struggling to think of the last time I walked out of a movie and I immediately wanted to go back to watch it all over again. Cabin in the Woods: Review

Cabin in the Woods is a film made for horror movie fans.  It takes what is a generic setup that audiences have seen time and time again (Cabin Fever, The Evil Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th) and molds it into something new and fresh.  Honestly I am not a big fan of the horror genre, (of course there are horror movies that I like) and I often wait until they hit home video before I see them.  Due to the talent behind Cabin in the Woods and thanks to the very positive buzz surrounding the movie leading up to its release my interest was piqued, so I decided to check it out opening weekend.  In this review I am going to do my best to stay away from the movie’s plot and story so that I don’t spoil the movie for anyone, as this is a film going experience that will benefit from knowing as little as possible going in. The Raid: Redemption – Review

If you are a fan of martial arts action movies you need to go see The Raid: Redemption.  This Indonesian film is filled with fast paced brutal action set pieces that will have you on the edge of your seat, and the action rarely stops throughout the movies 101 minute run time.  The last time I enjoyed a martial arts film this much was with 2003’s Ong Bak the Thai Warrior.
