When we dance, so slow. By the way we dance, you’ll know.
We all met Tyler Carter when Woe, Is Me released their debut on Rise Records, and instantly the entire scene went nuts over the Tyler’s vocals. Eventually Tyler Carter left Woe,Is Me and started his new band: Issues- a nu-metal revival band of sorts. As horrible as that sounds, with Tyler’s voice it just works.
Since 2010, Tyler has been releasing singles of his solo material, along with a few covers, but never put an album together until this past year. It has been a long time coming, and finally in 2015, Tyler Carter has given us his 6 song EP. It’s easy to imagine how differently Carter’s career would’ve been if he put this out before anything else. He’s got one of the most commanding voices in the scene, and he could easily become a bigger star if given a larger audience.
Leave Your Love is a fantastic R&B album, and hopefully an introduction to a prolific solo career. The production, flow, and atmosphere of the album is perfect, it’s something akin to the soft and haunting sounds of The Weeknd, and that’s most evident on the title track “Leave Your Love”. As good as this album is, it does have it’s flaws. From cheesy lyrics in the opening track; “Sophisticated”, to the underwhelming finisher “Find Me”. The production never takes away from Carter’s pitch-perfect vocals, but it does a good job keeping everything together during the weaker moments of the album.
All in all, “Leave Your Love” is the first album of 2015 that you should give a serious listen to. As good as Woe, Is Me and Issues are, Tyler Carter’s voice is made for R&B. Hopefully he does get into the solo stuff a lot more.
