I think that chest must be heavy from that cross on your neck you only wear ’cause you’re weary of what comes next after you’re death.
Record labels are always looking for the next big thing. Especially when it comes to female fronted bands. Hayley Williams and Paramore paved the way for younger bands, and thus making every label fighting to sign these “Paramore 2.0s”. I’d say, up until now, the labels got close, but never quite hit the jackpot.
Ladies and gentlemen, Rise Records hit the jackpot with PVRIS. I’m not saying this is Paramore 2.0, I’m just saying this band could go places. They are a relatively young band, only forming about two years ago. Yet, somehow they sound like they’ve been in the game for a while.
White Noise is a sonic landscape full of heavy bass lines, bombastic drumbeats, and downright flawless synths laced with Lynn Gunn’s smooth and full vocals. This album draws a lot of influences from Paramore, VersaEmerge, and The xx and they use their versatility to make one fantastic album. It’ll take several listens to catch every little layer in each song, but the more you listen the more you fall in love with Gunn’s vocals, lyrical ability, and the band’s confidence as a whole.
Lynn Gunn, in my opinion is a better vocalist than Hayley Williams, and the cohesiveness and chemistry between all the members is very strong. For as young as they are, they’re miles ahead of Paramore when they released “All We Know is Falling”.
I can’t say enough about this album that would do it justice. You’re just going to have to listen to it for yourself.
