BTC Weekly: 12/12/14

This week has been an overall great week for Bitcoin news around the globe. This week we will cover, Blockchain.com‘s security “oop’s”, the Bitcoin College Football Bowl, and Microsoft accepting Bitcoin as a form of online payment for all products!!

We’ll kick it off first with the “bad” news first. Blockchain.com is one of the worlds most popular online digital Bitcoin storage wallets. Over night 12/8/14 Blockchain was working on applying a software update to their web-based wallet. Doing so ended up creating a flaw in the way their code assigns private keys to Bitcoins handed out. This ended up affecting a few hundred users Bitcoin private addresses which left their keys in a state which would be easy to compromise and steal(only .0002% of their entire user base). Blockchain said, If you did any transactions with them during the time of 12am-2:30am it’s possible that your Bitcoin private key could have been compromised and that they would work with you to fix it.
Being one of the industry leaders in the Bitcoin community. Blockchain did the right thing by immediately fixing the issue and notifying the users of what had happened. Hopefully other Wallet companies take note of how this was handled and can

Tis’ the season for the million college bowls that happen around Christmas Time. In June of this year, it was announced that a Bitcoin Bowl would be happening!! A two-year deal was signed to rename the St. Petersburg Bowl the “Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl”. This is a fantastic way to get Bitcoin into the face of thousands of people who will have the ability to ask questions to plenty of people around about what Bitcoin truly is and why it has the potential to revolutionize the world! Bitcoin will be accepted for buying tickets as well as all concession sales at the game. The game will be aired on December 26th.

Microsoft being an industry leader. Something you haven’t probably heard in a very long time. Thursday morning (12/11) Microsoft announced that in it’s U.S store, you could start paying for any purchase made in the Windows store by using Bitcoin. Microsoft partnered with BitPay the Bitcoin transaction processing company to help get it fully integrated into their store. Whether you’d like to pay for XBox Life, an Xbox or even Windows 8. Bitcoin can be used! Microsoft has now joined the ranks of other large retailers like Overstock.com, NewEgg, and Tiger Direct.

With the announcement of Microsoft accepting Bitcoin as an official payment standard. The price shot up just over 4% from $335 to $350. As I type this, it seems the price has settled a bit and resting on $354.94.

That does it for this weeks BTC Weekly. Have a great weekend!
